Hey, it's Osh from Conversion Alchemy here.
“Write Less. Sell More.”
That’s the game.
David Ogilvy—the guy whose agency pulls $5.9B+ a year—knew it back in the 1960s.
I’ve spent 100+ hours dissecting how he wrote sales copy that sold everything from luxury cars to soap.
And here’s the brutal truth...
You’re probably writing too much.
There’s never been more:
- Ads
- Brands
- Creators
- Promos
- Distractions
All fighting for the same few seconds of attention.
If your copy doesn’t hook, hit, and move—fast—you lose.
Here’s what I’ve learned from Ogilvy (and what I apply on every client page):
- Write Killer Headlines
“Five times as many people read the headline as the body.”
So if your headline sucks, they’ll never read the rest.
- Keep It Simple & Clear
Big words don’t sell.
Clarity does.
Explain the outcome. Fast.
- Know Your Audience
Your customer isn’t a moron.
They’re your friend.
Write like it.
- Leverage Storytelling
Stories are how we’ve learned since childhood.
Use them to teach, inspire, and sell.
- Do the Research
You can’t write good copy without knowing who it’s for.
Great copy starts with great research.
- Let Images Do Heavy Lifting
Copy is powerful—but visuals move emotions.
We’ll dive deeper into “imagewriting” in a later post 👀
- Use Social Proof
People believe people.
Show them others who’ve already bought in.
- Guide with a CTA
Every section should lead somewhere.
Don’t make them guess what to do next.
Copywriting Secret:
Instagram bios have word limits, which forces clarity and punch.
Often brands write better headlines in their Insta bios than on their website.
Take a look at your bio to help give you inspo.
